Creating tools to provide objective guidance for outbreak response.
Flavio Finger aims to work on combining methods from scientific disciplines such as epidemiological modelling and data science to inform the response to outbreaks of infectious diseases in real-time. He plans to develop mathematical and statistical techniques, e.g. incidence forecast models and spatial risk prediction tools, that can be rapidly applied to provide evidence based guidance at times when uncertainty is very high and decision making is made under great pressure. He will work closely with key partners like Médecins sans Frontières and the World Health Organization to ensure that data collection and analysis pipelines are developed and routinised and that the scientific evidence created is most useful to decision makers.
