Principe
Bachelor’s students (except first-year students) enrolled in a recognized music school (conservatories, music colleges, etc.) may be exempt from SHS courses during the spring semester.
Conditions
Eligible students (independent applicants are not accepted) must submit an application each year at the beginning of their second and third years of the Bachelor’s program. The level of musical training must be equivalent to at least six years of completed musical studies. Students who discontinue their musical studies will return to the standard SHS program.
Procedure
Applications must be submitted no later than September 20 to [email protected]. After this deadline, applications will no longer be considered by the selection committee.
The admission decision will be announced in October.
The application must include:
- A cover letter (describing your EPFL background, musical background, skill level, musical activities, future goals, etc.)
- An official document from the music school you attend stating your current skill level
- Proof of enrollment at the music school for the relevant academic year
During the month of June, the SHS coordinator will contact the music school or conservatoire to obtain the student’s grade.
Once the application is approved, students enroll in an SHS course during the fall semester and are exempt from it during the spring semester. The grade received from the conservatory or music school will count as the SHS grade for the spring semester, denoted as “R” (“Réussi” for pass) or “E” (“Echec” for fail).
