EPFL has created a Doctoral Employees Unit (aka PhD Unit) staffed by people who are there to answer any such questions you have and help guide you through your time at EPFL. It is the perfect entry point when you start getting confused. The PhD unit is able to directly contact the best person to solve your issues instead of you having to dig for that information.
