Education is provided in English and French BUT the Master can be done completely in English.
The SIE master is formed of universal engineers with their own specialty areas in studying, preventing, eliminating or reducing the harmful effects caused by various environments (water, air, soil). Environmental engineering of EPF is an essential part of the sustainable development. It participates in the development of processes and technological equipments and provides data to help the decision-makers in their choices, thus allowing the pursuit of the economic activity and the maintenance of life and environments.

SIE Master organization
The common curriculum includes the “Obligatory Sector” and the optional “Specific Sector of SIE”.
It enables students to acquire excellent knowledge of environmental engineering in the following courses: Air pollution, Environmental transport phenomena, Geomonitoring, Spatial statistics and analysis, Water and wastewater treatment, and Water resources engineering. The implementation of this group of projects will prepare the students for better teamwork through often involving them in multiple players and issues.
The specialized training, also called specialization or minor (30 credits), provides the students with an opportunity to deepen a particular aspect of the field SIE or to complete his training in another area.

- water, soil and ecosystems engineering
- monitoring and modeling of the environment
- territorial development and urban planning
- interdisciplinary minor in integrated design, architecture and sustainability (IDEAS)

The options (30 credits) allow the students to complete the specialization or minor chosen, or to follow courses offered in other specializations or minors.
For minors: registration form needs to be filled before 15th October of each year
For the specializations and the minors: enrollment in IS-Academia needs to be finished before the end of the first semester of master
The Master Project (30 credits) needs to conduct in EPFL in another academic unit or in partnership with an industry in Switzerland or abroad.
