  • Where is located the SV Workshop?

The SV Workshop is located in the basement of building SV in room SV 0521.

 

  • What are the opening hours of the SV Workshop?

The workshop is open from 7:30AM to 11:45AM and from 1:00PM to 4:30PM.

 

  • Who should we contact in case of…

… electrical failure?
In case of electrical failures you can contact us by email or by calling number 38331. Outside our opening hours, please contact the PCC by email or call number 34000.

…IT problems?
For any IT or network related issue, please contact our SV-IT service.

…ventilation problems?
For all failure in the buildings ventilation system, please contact the PCC by email or call number 34000.

…sink or plumbing problems?
For all issues related to the sinks, plumbing and bathroom appliances, please contact the PCC by email or call number 34000.

…breakdown of a mobile laboratory equipment?
For all issues related to your laboratory equipment or mobile appliances, you should contact the workshop in the first place, either by email or by calling 38331. Our technicians will intervene quickly, or if necessary call an external company.

 

  • What is the workshop response time?

Our team does its best to respond to your requests within 24 hours. If you are facing an emergency, you can give us a call at number 38331 so we can assist you immediately.

 

  • Is there an emergency stand-by service?

An emergency stand-by service is available for some equipment connected to the centralized alarm system or for urgent and problematic situations happening during the night or week-ends. You will find more information on our emergency stand-by service by clicking on the page here.

 

  • Is there an alarm system for laboratory refirgerators and freezers?

There is an alarm system for the sensitive equipment such as refrigerators and freezers which is managed by the DII. When the system detects a large temperature variation on the device, a SMS is sent to the cell phone of the person responsible for the equipment.   • What are the frequencies of the preventive maintenances?

Preventive maintenances are performed usually once per year. Our technicians may intervene more or less frequently depending on the requirements of the equipment or according to the manufacturers recommendations.

 

  • What are the prices of the maintenances?

Frequently Asked Questions regarding Laboratory and Office Furnitures:

  • Whom should we contact regarding the laboratory and office furniture?

For all your furniture requests please contact us by email or by phone 38331. A catalog of EPFL office furniture is available on this page.

 

  • What are the delivery delays for the furniture?

We have a small in house stock of furniture that you may have at your disposal within a few days. For all requests of items not available from our storage, a 4 to 6 weeks delay may apply.

 

  • How much is the furniture proposed?

The purchasing of standard furniture is covered by the School and is not charged to the units. Requests of specific furniture not included in the EPFL catalog are billed to the units. Please contact us by email or by phone, at number 38331 for more information on the furniture proposed.


Frequently Asked Questions regarding Cryogenics:

  • What are the storage temperatures available?

Users can have access to -80°C (freezers) and -170°C (liquid nitrogen) storage.

 

  • How can I obtain cryogenics storage space?

The SV workshop keeps up-to-date a list of storage spaces made available to each unit. Please contact us by email or by phone 38331 if you wish to have access to some space in the cryogenics or if the space that was initially assigned to you is not sufficient.

 

  • What kind of samples can be stored in cryogenics?

Laboratories may store P1 samples, properly labeled and packaged and placed in a storage box of dimensions 133x133x45. Please contact us by email or by phone 38331 for more information. If you have any questions concerning the biosafety level of your samples to be stored, please contact our biosafety coordinator, Mr. Stéphane Karlen.

 

  • For how long can our samples be stored?

There is no time limit for the storage of your samples in our cryogenics service. However in order to optimize the storage space, users are asked to regularly sort their samples and discard all expired or useless products.
