The new platform Living Archives allows you to publish online all research and educational work carried out by your laboratory, group, course or project studio within EPFL Architecture. Operated in partnership with ENAC IT4-Research and Infoscience, this new tool will contribute to the strategy developed by EPFL to move towards an open access of research and education publications Open Science / Open Access

  • User’s guide

Publishing content on the Living Archives requires a high quality digital documentation. Each article, research project, theoretical course or workshop project is made visible with a title, a descriptive text, a series of images and PDF documents. A photo studio at BP 3122 is available for the entire ENAC community, allowing the production of quality photographic reproductions of objects, models or works.

Any completed ‘project’ such as a research, PhD, event (conference, seminar,..), exhibition, publication can be referenced online.

Please note that infoscience.epfl.ch, as the EPFL institutional archive, remains the official tool for the dissemination of publications produced at EPFL. It is strongly recommended to enter your publications in infoscience.epfl.ch and to upload the full text while respecting the copyright. It is then suggested to reference the same publications in livingarchives.epfl.ch, by adding the link to the Infoscience record (e.g.: https://infoscience.epfl.ch/record/293515) and to deposit graphic files (images, photos, plans, videos, …) which will give visibility to your project in livingarchives.epfl.ch.

For each completed project, such as term papers, master’s papers, superstudio or other courses, study trips or workshops, it is expected that the intermediate and/or teaching staff coordinates the posting of the projects completed by their students. It is recommended that teachers and assistants define their own guidelines according to their teaching.

For any completed project such as an event, conference, seminar, workshop, exhibition, publication or other, it is expected that someone related to the project will be in charge of uploading the ‘project’. If your ‘community‘ is not listed in the archive form, you can send a request to the Living Archives support.

– use the Google Chrome browser (recommended)
– go to livingarchives.epfl.ch
– open the menu on the right
– click on ‘login’
– connect via your EPFL tequila account
– click on ‘Add project’
– fill in the form to enter a ‘project

A work produced in Switzerland is automatically protected by the Swiss Copyright Law which defines exhaustively the exceptions in favor of the users of the works, among which the right of quotation, the right of private copy, the pedagogical exception as well as the duration of the copyright. For more information on the following topics, you can visit the following page offered by the EPFL Library. Contact: [email protected]

Creative Commons are license agreements intended to regulate the use of copyrighted works (texts, images, drawings, photos, plans, films, etc.). They were created by the non-profit association Creative Commons (CC). The author decides beforehand to share his work and the rights he grants to the people who reuse his work. There are several Creative Commons licenses depending on what the author wants to grant: CC 0, CC BY, CC BY SA…

Encourage the sharing of your work by clarifying the conditions of reuse and ensure the proper dissemination of your work and its visibility.

The author of the project has the right to publish under a Creative Commons license only the content of which he/she/they is/are the author. It is therefore essential to clearly distinguish the elements of which they are not the author by quoting them correctly. In the project, it will be necessary to indicate with an explanatory note the content to which the license does not apply.

Our recommendation: CC BY license. The rights that the author grants with this license: the reuse and modification of the publication in question. The duties of the person who reuses this work are to credit the author(s) by mentioning their names. Discover all the CC licenses on the Creative Commons website: https://creativecommons.org/choose
