High accuracy flexure based x,y stage

To displace objects in x,y space with high accuracy is a task of key importance in different fields ranging from assembly technologies up to space applications. Several solutions exist on the market, but none can guarantee high precision when high loads are involved (e.g. assembly) or no lubrication is possible (e.g. space). EPFL patented a solution that fulfils such requirements. The solution relies on flexures, which consist in rigid segments interconnected by short flexible elements.
