Call for participants – Empowering youth and women in science for a food-secure future

Exchange between FAO leaders and youth in science

Event Description

Celebrating the spirit of the International day of Women and Girls in Science in February, FAO and the World Food Forum will organize a hybrid event in Geneva to facilitate an exchange between FAO’s leaders and women in science who are developing innovative approaches, technologies and science to address the current global food challenges we face today. Under the framework of the World Food Forum, FAO in Geneva is providing a platform for female scientists from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), [University from Bangladesh – TBC] and SCOPE Zimbabwe to present their work on transforming the current agrifood systems.  This dialogue will also give the youth a rare opportunity to hear about the career experiences from the FAO Deputy Director-General and Chief Scientist.

FAO and the World Food Forum

Launched in 2021, the World Food Forum (WFF) is an independent, youth-led global network of partners facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It aims to spark a global movement that empowers young people everywhere to actively shape agrifood systems to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a better food future for all.

The WFF serves as the premier global forum to harness the passion and power of youth to identify solutions and incite positive action for agrifood systems. It aligns with the 2021 United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit, acts as major youth platform in global food governance, and serves as a global think tank that fosters youth-led solutions in innovation, science and technology. The WFF aims to support and grow youth initiatives in the agrifood sector in line with global youth policy recommendations.
