Moi University

The University’s Main Campus is located in Kesses, 35 kilometers from Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County and 310 kilometers Northwest of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. 

Since 1984, the University has experienced phenomenal growth leading to the establishment of several Constituent Colleges across the country, many of which have since grown to fully fledged Universities namely; Maseno University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Maasai Mara University, University of Kabianga, University of Eldoret, Karatina University and Rongo University. It is currently nurturing two University Colleges; Bomet and Alupe.

To date, the student population stands at approximately 30,000 distributed in various Campuses across Kenya namely; Annex, Coast, Eldoret Town (CHS), Eldoret West, Main and Nairobi. Academic Programmes offered are supported by about 3,000 Members of Staff with being 870 Academic Staff.

Schools

At the moment, the University has 14 Schools, namely;

Directorates

The University also has three (3) Directorates, namely;

  1. Information Communication & Technology,
  2. Quality Assurance, Compliance & Performance Contracting and Resource Mobilization,
  3. Enterprise Development & Institutional Advancement (RMEDIA).

Institutes

The University has three (3) Institutes:

  1. Gender, Diversity & Peace Studies,
  2. Open, Distance & e-Learning and
  3. Confucius Institute. 

It also has a Biomedical Informatics Centre.

Subsidiaries

Moi University has two subsidiaries: Moi University owns a Textile Factory-Rivatex East Africa Limited and Innovation Firm Limited – another business arm of the University.  This makes us the only University running a factory for teaching and production in the region. We also offer Aviation courses supported by three aircrafts fully owned and operated by the University, the only one of its kind in Africa.

Centre of Excellence

The University is also a Centre of Excellence in;

  • Centre of East and South African-German,
  • Centre of Excellence for Educational Research Methodologies and Management (CERM-ESA),
  • Centre of Excellence in Phytochemicals, Textile and Renewable Energy (ACEII-PTRE),
  • Cluster Centre of Excellence in African Studies (ACC) and,
  • Center of Competence in Digital Education (C-CoDE).

Moi University is proud to have been selected to be the UNESCO Chair on Enterprise Management and Sustainability.

Finally, the University has established MU Technologies, which is a plant that manufactures and assembles ICT devices.  It is set to roll out its new modern product portfolio which includes; Laptops, Desktops, all-in-one devices, mobile phones, water meters and electronic appliances, (home and office) among others.  It is important for you to note that the facility has produced devices for Digital Literacy Project and the National Population and Housing Census.
