AI for medicine

The first CIS collaboration grant was approved by the CIS steering committee for the project entitled “Cardiac Digital Twins and Culprit Lesion Detection”, hosted by the laboratories of Prof. Abbé (SB/IC) and Prof. Frossard. The projects leads contribute to develop the CIS research pillar on “Intelligent Systems for medicine”, strengthen research activities in this general area and facilitate collaborations between CIS, medical experts and hospitals.

Project Leader

Dr. Dorina Thanou is working at EPFL on the CIS collaboration grant on Intelligent systems for Healthcare, which primarily focuses on developing innovative AI solutions for cardiology.

Before joining the CIS, Dorina was a Senior Data Scientist at the Swiss Data Science Centre. She got her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Communication Systems and Electrical Engineering respectively, both from EPFL, Switzerland, and her Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece. During her PhD studies, she conducted a research stay with Microsoft Research, Redmond, USA. 

Her research interests lie in the broader area of signal processing and machine learning and she is particularly interested in applying her expertise to intelligent systems for healthcare.  

 

Associated Labs

The research in the chair of Mathematical Data Science (MDS) focuses on the mathematical principles that underpin the analysis and design of information and data science technologies. As branches of mathematics, this involves mainly statistics, probability and discrete mathematics, and as more specific fields, learning theory, information/coding theory, random structures and algorithms. 

The Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS4) is a team of researchers led by Prof. Pascal Frossard, working in the Electrical Engineering Institute of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland.

The group research focuses on image processing, graph signal processing and machine learning, as well as closely related fields such as network data analysis, distributed signal processing, image and video coding and immersive communications. We work at the frontier between signal processing, machine learning and applied mathematics.
