|Judit Planas is the Scientific Coordinator of the Computing Division
Judit joined the Blue Brain Project in 2015 as a Postdoctoral Researcher under the supervision of Prof. Felix Schürmann. Her work focused on strategies for memory-intensive and I/O-intensive neuroscience applications. In this context, she developed software and techniques to accelerate applications and leverage from the latest hardware and software technologies, like using non-volatile memory (NVM) or big data solutions.
In 2019, Judit became the Scientific Coordinator of the Computing Division of Blue Brain. In that function, she now helps the Computing Division to fulfill the expected contributions to the scientific roadmap of the Project. This includes ensuring tight linkage with the project management of BBP and facilitating a cohesive strategy and implementation inside the division. In addition, she is still participating in the research and implementation of techniques for I/O-intensive applications and large-scale data analysis with big-data infrastructure.
Judit Planas received her Ph.D. in Computer Architecture from the Computer Architecture Department of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in 2015. She worked at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center from 2008 to 2015, where she developed her MSc and PhD. in programming models for heterogeneous architectures, focused on accelerators, like GPGPUs and Intel Xeon Phi. During this period, she participated in a number of different workshops and courses involving parallel programming models and CUDA programming as a teaching assistant. In addition, as part of her PhD, she did an internship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Illinois, USA) under the supervision of Prof. Wen-mei W. Hwu.
Outside of work, Judit enjoys spending time with friends, travelling and meeting new people. She is also a fan of many outdoor activities, including skiing, cycling, roller/ice skating, snorkeling and sailing.
