The TIS Lab is hiring !

We are looking for an enterprising student to work part-time in the TIS lab as a research assistant. This is a paid position.

Past Projects

The TIS Lab also works with industry partners to supervise part-time research projects in econometrics, data science, and technology/innovation strategy. We work with students from across EPFL including computer science, electrical engineering, and statistics.

A selection of past projects includes:

  • Unsupervised relation extraction and sentence representation for knowledge graphs – in cooperation with IBM Research.
  • Custom text embeddings for the legal space – in cooperation with Harvard Law School and the Caselaw Access Project.
  • Financial risk disclosures in SEC regulatory findings – in cooperation with the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics.
  • Valuation models for machine learning prototypes – in cooperation with Swisscom.
  • Key success factors for Build & Buy by private equity firms – in cooperation with Humatica
  • Goal-oriented active learning for the optimization of relabelling invoices – in cooperation with Richmont.
  • Design considerations and A/B testing of business intelligence dashboards – in cooperation with
  • Demand forecasting and replenishment for retail stores – in cooperation with Migros
  • Machine learning for the optimization of carbon emissions in lot sizing decisions during procurement – in cooperation with GenLots
  • XGBoost and recurrent neural networks to identify atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) and other arrhythmias from heart rate monitors – in cooperation with the EPFL Embedded System Laboratory
  • Ensembles of supervised machine learning and statistical models to forecast demand in the supply chain – in cooperation with Argon & Co.
  • Codification of knowledge in agile software development – in cooperation with Evooq.
  • Prototyping of an Internet of Things (IoT) system for customer relationship management – in cooperation with ELCA Informatique.
  • Optimization of online marketing, cross-selling, and conversion with Richmont.
  • IT systems and methods for causal inference within patterns of retail sales with Groupe L’Occitane.
  • Factors predicting skill obsolescence within the French aerospace industry.
