5th Shale Workshop EAGE Catania, 2016

The Laboratory of Soil Mechanics participated at the Fifth Shale Workshop organized by the European association of geoscientists and engineers EAGE. The event took place in Catania, Sicily, on 2-4 May 2016.

People from various International Universities, Companies and Industries participated actively to the discussions, through 4 scientific sessions focused on: (i) shale characterization, (ii) multiphysical behaviour, (iii) THM modelling, anisotropy and poroelasticity, and (iv) case studies. Sessions dealt with shale analysis from nanometers to the site’s scales.

  The LMS has participated with the following activities:

  • Dr. Alessio Ferrari chaired the technical session on multiphysical behavior of shales;
  • Two oral presentations in the thematic sessions were given by PhD students

Alberto Minardi, on the Anisotropic volumetric response of shale upon suction changes.

Valentina Favero, entitled An insight on the thermo-mechanical behavior of a shale.
