The ISSMGE TC-101 International Workshop “Advances in Multphysical Testing of Soil and Shales (ATMSS)”, was held in Lausanne of Switzerland from 3rd to 5th of September of 2012. It was organized by Prof. Lyesse Laloui and Dr. Alessio Ferrari at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The workshop aimed at stimulating the debate on the advances in experimental geomechanics; 40 contributions on unsaturated soil testing, nonisothermal experiments, shale testing, micro-scale investigations and image analysis techniques were presented and discussed. Six theme lectures completed the programme.
