6th Asia-Pacific Conference on Unsaturated soils

The Laboratory of Soil Mechanics participated at the 6th Asia-Pacific Conference on Unsaturated soils. The series of Asia-Pacific conferences on unsaturated soils began in 2000 with strong emphasis on both the theoretical aspect and practical significance of unsaturated soil mechanics in the Asia-Pacific region, which is supported by the Technical Committee on Unsaturated Soils (TC106) of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The 6th conference took place at the city of Guilin in China, on 23-25 October 2015. Hosted by Guilin University of Technology, this event gathered about 250 participants from both academia and industries. Eleven technical sessions were organized, covering various theoretical and practical topics.

Prof. Lyesse Laloui was invited to deliver a Keynote lecture entitled “Multiphysical Behaviour of Shales”.

Another two oral presentations have also been done by Dr. Alessio Ferrari and Mr. Yafei Qiao.
  • “Hydro-mechanical behaviour of shot-clay bentonite”, by Dr. Alessio Ferrari, in the Bentonite session.
  • “Sensitive THM coupled analysis of buffer-rock barriers for nuclear waste storage” by Mr. Yafei Qiao, in the Numerical Modelling session.

All three presentations have been published in the book entitled “Unsaturated Soil Mechanics – from Theory to Practice” by CRC press/Balkema.
