Embodied Spatial Cognition: Biological and Artificial Systems
Abstract:
The talk will summarize recent work on the graph approach to spatial
cognition. Taking view-based recognition of places as a starting point, the
ontology of spatial representations will be explored with respect to the route
vs map distinction, hierarchical representations of space, and the role of
spatial reference frames. Usage of spatial knowledge and spatial working
memory will be discussed with respect to planning.
Finally, examples from
ongoing work on the role of language-based representations of space will be
presented.
