Swiss Commission for Astronomy
The Swiss Commission for Astronomy (SCFA) of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (ScNat) via the MAP (Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics) platform is the board representing the Swiss professional astronomers. It is made essentially of the directors of the various Swiss astronomical institutes listed below.
The SCFA represents the main link between professional astronomers and the State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER). The latter asked the SCFA in 2006 to produce the Roadmap for Astronomy in Switzerland 2007-2016 (pdf, 4.1 MB) in order to facilitate political decisions related to the long-term scientific policy of Switzerland in relation to astronomy.
The SCFA represents the Swiss astronomers in international scientific organisations such as the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
