The Galatea lab routinely hosts students for internship and projects in general.

For EPFL’s students only, below is a list of available topics.

Important note: Students can have their commuting expenses covered if they live outside Neuchâtel.


EPFL’s students – Semester projects 2020

  1. Design of an infrared laser beam profiler instrument: The goal of this project is to design, assemble and characterize a mechanical beam-profiling instrument that will work for a broad range of wavelength. More information? Contact Samuel Benketaf.
  2. Modelling of a bulk Acousto-Optics-Modulator (AOM): we propose a project aiming at modelling a micro-AOM device from the electrical excitation to the light modulation and to explore different designs and their properties. More information? Contact : Enrico Casamenti

EPFL’s students – Master projects 2020

  1. Design and validation of a unidirectional ultrafast laser driven actuator: the objective is to design, fabricate and characterize an unidirectional actuator. More information? Contact : Pieter Vlugter or Saood Nazir.
  2. Optofluidic sensor for the monitoring microalgae populations in Lake Geneva (LExplore): the objective will be to improve sensors under developments that will be deployed on the platform for monitoring Lake Geneva algae population changes. More information? Contact: Manon Tardif.

  3. Optofluidic sensor for monitoring and observing parasites oganisms observed in water bodies: the goal will be to design, test and acquire first data on a sensor made of glass able to detect parasites present in Lake Geneva. More information? Contact: Manon Tardif.

  4. Micro-glass blowing: The objective is to work on a novel process mimicking glass blowing at the microscale. More information? Contact: Samuel Benketaf.
