Ph.D. student positions available

The Earth and Planetary Science Laboratory at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne invites applications for  pre-doctoral research assistantships in experimental high-pressure mineral physics and chemistry. Research may focus on phase equilibria, equation of state, melting, element partitioning, and/or texture of mineral assemblages. Major focuses are behavior of iron in the Earth’s core-mantle boundary region and transport and storage of carbon in the deep interior.

Our laboratory in the Institut de Physique of EPFL has facilities for high-pressure spectroscopic studies at a wide range of high and low temperatures and will use extensive sample characterization facilities at EPFL and synchrotron techniques at ESRF (France), SLS (Switzerland), and APS (USA). Previous experience with synchrotron and/or diamond anvil cell techniques is a plus but not required for the position. A recent Master’s degree in Physics, Earth Science or Chemistry is required.

For more information, interested applicants should send a cover letter and CV to Prof. Philippe Gillet, [email protected].
