“Switzerland – a new way of life” by Ariane Curdy.

When Switzerland is mentioned, many people think of mountains, cheese, chocolate, watches, and banks. However, when studying and living in Lausanne, other realities emerge. Besides realizing how costly life can be in Switzerland, one may also start wondering why the shops are closed on Sundays, and question the validity of the many rules the Swiss seem to follow by the book. Some Swiss habits may also seem strange, or unreasonable, until one understands the reasoning behind them.

During this highly interactive and engaging session we will explore what Swiss Culture is all about. Not only will this session help you make sense of the experiences you may already have had, but you will also understand better how and why, we, the Swiss, function the way we do. You will walk away with some practical and useful tips on Swiss Do’s and Don’ts that will help you adjust to your new environment. You will also be given some intercultural tools which will help you interact efficiently with your colleagues from around the world.
