+ 6 months after your enrollment

  • For your first year, the program will assign an EDIC committee member as your contact person. The contact person is available to advice and guide the doctoral student before and throughout their first year. Advice may especially be valuable in the spring semester where fellowship students are deciding on their lab affiliation.

Each year in the autumn after passing your candidacy exam

  • As of your third semester, you will be invited to indicate your preferences for an IC faculty member to replace your first year contact person. When making your selection, please choose someone who is independent of your advisor(s), and who is outside your research area. The role of the mentor is to mediate between the doctoral student and the thesis advisor, other faculty, or the administration. You should meet with your mentor at least once a year, even if it is just for a general update on your progress.
