The Students Affairs (SAE) from EPFL is there to help you at all practical levels when preparing your arrival and during your studies. On this service’s portal, you will find a lot of useful information regarding subjects such as:

EPFL encourages international mobility and offers the option of accomplishing part of your studies abroad. The range of possibilities is very wide, with partner universities all around the world.

Academic Calendar

The academic year is split into 2 semesters. The first semester (Fall semester) starts in week 38 (mid-September). The courses finish in week 51. Then follow 3 weeks of holidays, also used to prepare the semester’s exams that happen in weeks 3,4 and 5.

The second semester (Spring semester) starts in week 8 and ends in week 22. Then follow 2 preparation weeks before the exams session happening in weeks 25, 26 and 27.

Students life

Life on campus is also animated by many memorable events: culture, sports, parties are also important aspects of a student’s life.

  • The music festival Balelec
  • The Beachvolley tournament Polybeach
  • The legendary Satellite bar and its cultural program
  • Polynite, being traditonnally the first big party of the academic year
  • And many others!

A majority of those events are organized by students associations, groups that are worth volunteering for. The main students association at EPFL is called Agepoly.

It is of course possible to practice a wide variety of sports at EPFL, furthermore, in a stunning natural environment and state of the art facilities. The sports service works for both EPFL and our neighbour, the University of Lausanne.
