The goal of this project is to use a building as a concrete experimental facility, to observe its use and the behavior of its inhabitants in a real-life setting.
To achieve this objective, sensors were integrated during the construction of a new building on the EPFL campus. They will allow us to work along two avenues:
- Following users and monitoring structures
- Regulating systems and energy consumption
This inherently multidisciplinary project will open the doors to new experiments in fields ranging from energy management and structural mechanics to flow studies, video imaging, and big data management. The inauguration of the first test building is scheduled for 2016.
