Which purchase channel should be preferred? What kind of discounts can EPFL employees benefit from? How do you proceed with the reimbursement of your train tickets? Find all the information you need on this page.

EPFL authorizes first-class travel for employees at functional level 7 and above. Note that the Head of the Financial Centre can authorize an upgrade.

National tickets

For train tickets in Switzerland,  the plateform SwissPass is the preferred channel. It allows you to buy tickets online with a 10% discount as well as Supersaver Tickets and Day Cards.

The prices displayed on SwissPass are public prices. The 10% discount applies at the time of invoicing. The same discount applies to tickets ordered from the “SBB Passenger Contact Centre”.

It is recommended to purchase nominative tickets shortly before departure to avoid refund fees in the event of cancellation.

International tickets

The Ticket Shop allows you to buy tickets on the main European train lines, with a 10% discount. In the event of a problem with the reservation platform of the destination country, contact the “SBB Passenger Contact Centre”: 0848 111 456.

Subscriptions and half-fare travelcards

EPFL offers to the employees the half-fare card as well as advantageous conditions for the general subscription.

Find more information here: SBB subscriptions – EPFL human resources.

  • Reimbursement of train tickets ordered on the Ticket Shop (international tickets) and SwissPass (national tickets) is made via the SBB website.
  • For other ticket categories, such as multi-course cards or multi-pack, please send your request to the Accounting Department, together with the “CFF/SBB ticket refund request” form.
  • Train tickets purchased from the EPFL Travel Agency that need to be cancelled must be returned directly to the Agency.

The EPFL travel agency is at your disposal to organize your business trips. Specialized in business travel, its agents are present on the campus.
