In its Environmental master plan, EPFL has committed to a 30% reduction of CO2 emissions related to energy consumption by 2020, and up to 50% by 2035 (reference year 2012)

The CO2 balance of the campus is based on an analysis made by Quantis, an EPFL spin-off. It includes scopes 1, 2 and 3 as defined by the Greenhouse Gas ProtocolIt reveals the importance of mobility (64% of global emissions), in terms of commuting (88% caused by cars) and in terms of business trips (94% caused by planes).

Since 2004, vehicles from Mobility are available to all staff members and associations. They can use it for trips under 150km or under 12 hours.
