There are approximately 1.6 billion people today who do not have access to electric light. This enormous portion of the world’s population gets by with kerosene lamp and other primitive sources of light. Burning kerosene is harmful for people’s health since particulates from the lamp clog the lungs, like smoking cigarettes.

We, LEDsafari, have developed a Do-It-Yourself low-cost solar lamp which costs $2 in developing countries. This lamp can potentially replace the ubiquitous kerosene lamp in a whole host of settings. Moreover, it has applications beyond what we can list here: study lamps, ambient lighting, mobile lamps, etc. Combined with a small solar panel, which we have picked to match the lamp exactly, the lamp promotes enviormental sustainability.

YUVA brings you a LEDsafari workshop where you can develop your own DIY solar lamp. And, if it interests you, we will help you share the wonder and utility of this simple technology all over the world. Join us for this challenge to eradicate the inappropriate use of kerosene as a fuel for lighting.
