F.A.Q.

What is CIEL?
CIEL: Concours Interdisciplinaire Étudiant de Lausanne. CIEL is a student organized event with a 24-hour-non-stop format competition challenging students from all around the world on a common theme.
What is this year’s theme?
For this second edition, the theme will be Transportation, Logistics and People Management for Sustainable Olympic Games
For the 2019 edition, the theme was Tomorrow’s Sustainable Olympic Village.
Does this has anything to do with the Olympic Games?
Although the event is an original idea of the organizing committee, CIEL is in close collaboration with the IOC (International Olympic Committee) as well as with the committee in charge of the next Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
In fact, the solutions suggested by each team will be taken into account for the design of the future Olympic Villages.
Can I come to the opening and closing ceremony without participating?
The students will go through a number of iteration processes, during 24 hours non-stop, in order to pitch at the end of the time their solution to the problem posed.
How are the teams selected and composed?
The selection happens at the level of the university upon the next criteria: Speed of answer | Interdisciplinarity among the selected teams | Global motivation | Whether transportation is assured by the school or not
One team is composed of one student from each selected university. There will be 6 teams in total each composed of 8 students.
Will I be able to have lobbying time with my team before the chrono starts?
Right after the opening ceremony, there will be a coaching session with all the participants with a number of activities that will be specified on the d-day.
Am I able to go out of my “working room” and interact with other teams or people unrelated with the competition?
Of course, you are not locked in the room! There will be a resting area as well as a snack area where you can relax when needed, keeping in mind that the clock keeps ticking…
What am I allowed to use during the competition? (Gadgets, documentations, materials…)
You can use any support you consider useful as long as you bring it with you. Note that you will also be provided with material to help in your brainstorm.
What is the main language of the competition?
English. Go for English. Of course you’re allowed to look for your words or elaborate your idea in any other language but be sure that no one feels out of the game.
Is it free?
There’s a 50CHF participation fee per student to take part in CIEL. Food, beverage and accommodation are provided.
Who will compete?
6 Teams of 8 students will compete. Every team is composed of one student from each university.
Where will it take place?
