ENAC – PhD position to investigate the microbial community dynamics during variable hydrological forcing

Requirements :

  • educational background in microbiology
  • a strong chemistry background is an asset
  • experience or keen interest in genomic tools
  • computer skills: Word, Excel, Powerpoint

  • self-motivation, scientific curiosity, critical thinking and rigor in experimental work

Work description :

 The project deals with the role of variable hydrological forcing on the microbial community dynamics in soil. The experiments will involve in the detailed probing of microbial responses to redox fluctuations associated with a rising and falling water table in column experiments as well as large lysimeter experiments. This work will involve extensive genomic characterization of the microbial communities as well as their activity.


  • perform column experiments and the associated microbial and geochemical analyses
  • assist in running lysimeter experiments
  • perform metagenomic studies including the bioinformatic analysis
  • participate in general laboratory tasks
  • take classes required by the doctoral school
  • write publications
  • attend and present at international conferences
  • participate in meetings of the project team
